Vanguard Moving and Storage History...

    Started in 1977 by Peter E. Ozols and Sons, operating as an agent for American Red Ball Van Lines, Vanguard Moving and Storage switched van lines to National Van Lines, Inc. in 1999. In 2004 Vanguard Moving and Storage was bought by David Anton Inc. To this day Vanguard continues to be one of the top booking agents in the Northeast for National Van Lines.

David Anton, Owner & Operator

David Anton was born and raised in Chappaqua, New York. David is very proud to have bought Vanguard Moving & Storage at the age of 25. His goal is to perform honest, fair and quality moves for customers all over the sate of Connecticut. At the age of 10 he started working on trucks with his father. Three years later he started working for a small moving company based in Westchester County New York. He fell in love with the moving industry and set goals to one day own his own company. He felt the only way to truly have knowledge of the profession was to do it hands on. At the age of 18 he started driving straight trucks moving vans for North American Van Lines. Two years later he was driving tractor-trailers. While Dave attended Horace Greeley High school (Chappaqua, NY), North Carolina Wesleyan (Rocky Mount, NC), Western New England College (Springfield, MA) and Western Connecticut University (Danbury, CT) he worked every summer in the moving industry. He then switched over to Paul Arpin Van Lines and drove tractor-trailers for another three years with them. Dave Anton then bought Vanguard Moving & Storage and became president in May of 2004. He started by himself and has quickly grown Vanguard to a nine-truck, two-trailer and thirty-employee operation. He would like to see Vanguard Moving & Storage continue to grow as long as they continue to do quality work for all of their customers.

Michael Carney, Sales & Marketing

Michael Carney is originally from Yonkers, New York. He has been in sales for over 40 years. Michael was brought to Vanguard Moving & Storage to help bring experience in both the corporate and sales aspects of the company. With his knowledge and ability he has taken over acquiring National Accounts and Corporate Moves. He will surely help Vanguard Moving & Storage grow.

Robert Harris, Operations Manager

Bob came to Vanguard Moving in 2005. From the first day, he has contributed to much of the growth of Vanguard Moving. Transferring from another National Van Lines agent, Bob spent his first 3 years driving tractor trailers. Bob has both experience in operations and moving and storage. He was an Operations Manager for Bekins Van Lines and tractor trailer driver for Paul Arpin Van Lines. After receiving the 2007 Vanguard Moving and Storage Employee of the Year Award, he was promoted to the Operations Manager position. Bob fits in well with the Vanguard family and has become a necessity for everyday operations.

Donna Harris, Administrative Assistant

Donna Harris came joined Vanguard Moving along with her husband Bob in 2005. She was a great help to Bob when she was on the road with him to help him stay organized and coordinate jobs. She has worked in the past in operations at Bekins as well as Paul Arpin with Bob Harris. Her organizational skills and knowledge of the moving and storage industry have earned her an Administrative Assistant position in the Vanguard office. She has made great sacrifices to Vanguard by relocating from South Carolina to CT.

Beryl Anton, Administrative Assistant

Beryl was born and raised in New York. After meeting her soon to be husband Steven Anton she married him in 1973. Beryl attended NYU to pursue a job in retail distribution. After having and raising Rachel and David Anton she went back to work in Chappaqua Central School District for 13 years as a computer teacher. After the loss of her husband in September 2006,  she decided to work with her son, Dave, at Vanguard Moving to help maintain Vanguard Moving and Storage as a family oriented business.

Arline Gassner, Customer Service and Claims

We are proud Arline joined the Vanguard family in 2006. Arline brings experience having work in the moving and storage industry for over 30 years working with Allied and Mayflower Van Lines. Arline's knowledge has been an asset to Vandguard Moving when working with customers and claims. Her positive attitude, good work ethic, and experience has contributed to the growth of Vanguard.

Vanguard Employees, Drivers and Movers

Vanguard Moving & Storage consists of 35 employees. Many of the employees have been recruited by Dave Anton from his years in the industry; other employees have joined on and have been trained by David Anton and senior staff. The drivers at Vanguard Moving & Storage have an average of 13 years experience and are 100% Department Of Transportation compliant. The helpers at Vanguard Moving & Storage have an average of 5 years experience. Dave himself or Senior Members of his Staff train any new employees at Vanguard. Vanguard has a very low turnover ratio, which is something we are very proud of.
